STSC spent over 2 years developing the CircStretch™ textile collection to help combat the global problem of plastic pollution and highlight the growing false promotion that “recycled plastic” is environmentally sound and to try address the devastating impact resulting from its increased consumption along with the human health and environmental impact related to the use of undocumented hazardous chemical dyes and finishes.
BIODEGRADABILITY OF MICROFIBRES
Our aim to support circular pathways for CircStretch™ to be identified and through fibre to fibre recycled therefore we've also focused on the lowest imact of both fibres and dyes from the inevitable microfibre pollution from washing and wear.
TÜV Austria independent testing shows TENCEL™ Lyocell biodegrades in fresh water in 42 days, in soil in approximately 55 days, and in salt water in 63 days. A Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego) independent study confirmed full marine biodegradation within 30 days. Polyester tested in the same study was essentially unchanged after 200+ days.
Both the TENCEL™ and the final textiles undergoe OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 tests for harmful substance testing. Upstream we have the bluesign system to stop harmful toxins from the get-go.
Roica V550 is engineered to partially degrade (unlike conventional elastane which doesn't degrade at all), breaking down into CO₂ and water without releasing harmful substances
It holds the highest sustainability certifications available for any elastane — Cradle to Cradle Gold Material Health + OEKO-TEX® — not plastic-free, but the closest thing to it that currently exists
